iPhone Duo US carriers and plans: who is selling it, and how to order

iPhone Duo goes up for pre-order at 5:00 a.m. PT on Friday 16 October 2026 and ships on Friday 23 October. Apple sells it through three US carriers at checkout — AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon — or unlocked, and because the phone is eSIM-only worldwide, almost any other US carrier will work as bring-your-own-device.

What none of them have published yet is a deal. Duo pre-orders open five weeks after the iPhone 18 Pro, and carrier promotions tend to land within days of a pre-order window rather than a month ahead — so the trade-in credits and switcher offers are still to come.

Buy direct from Apple

These are the four options at Apple’s own checkout. A carrier-connected iPhone Duo arrives ready to activate with eSIM, so there is no SIM to fit and no store visit required.

Note that Apple shows carrier selection, not carrier pricing — the $1,999 to $3,199 ladder is the same whichever you pick. Any discount comes from the carrier as bill credits after activation, which is exactly the part nobody has published yet.

Apple’s own financing and trade-in

This is confirmed, and it is available regardless of which carrier you choose.

Two warnings on the leasing programme, which is new this year and replaces the old iPhone Upgrade Programme. It is a consumer lease, not a purchase — end it and return the device and you own nothing — and terminating early can incur a substantial charge. On ACMI, note that taxes and shipping fall under the card’s variable APR, not the 0% rate.

Apple is also giving three months of Apple One free to new and qualified returning subscribers who buy an iPhone Duo, from 17 September.

Every other US carrier: bring your own

Because Duo is eSIM-only, any carrier that supports eSIM activation can take it as a BYOD device. None of these sell Duo directly, and none has announced a promotion — but all of them will activate one.

What the deals will probably look like

The iPhone 18 Pro promotions running now are the best available indication of what each carrier will put behind Duo. They are not Duo offers, and the amounts will not carry over unchanged — a constrained first-generation product rarely attracts the same discounting as a Pro.

Two caveats worth setting expectations against. Offers at this level almost always require a qualifying plan and 36 months of bill credits, so leaving early forfeits the remainder — and Duo supply is expected to be tight, with Apple staggering availability across two waves. Aggressive trade-in promotions are less likely on a constrained first-generation product than on a Pro.

eSIM only: what actually changes

Duo has no SIM tray anywhere in the world. Apple says removing it freed internal volume for the dual-battery system, and in the US this is largely a non-event — every carrier above supports eSIM.

What it changes in practice:

• Switching is faster. eSIM transfer between iPhones takes minutes and needs no store visit.
• A carrier-connected order arrives ready to activate, so there is nothing to insert.
• Travel is the friction point. If you routinely buy local prepaid SIMs abroad, you now need a carrier that sells eSIMs in that market. Most do; not all do.
• iPhone Handoff lets you switch between two iPhones on the same number, on supported carriers.

Pre-order checklist

• Decide unlocked or carrier-connected before 16 October. ACMI requires picking AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon at checkout, but still ships unlocked — the best of both, if you have an Apple Card.
• Get your trade-in quote early. The range is $35–$885, and values are quoted against condition.
• Be ready at 5:00 a.m. PT. Supply is expected to be constrained, and Kuo attributed the five-week gap after the iPhone 18 Pro to manufacturing limits.
• Wait for the carrier offer if you can. With nothing announced, buying at full price on day one may cost you a bill-credit deal that appears a week later.

What to expect on 16 October

Carrier offers usually appear the same morning pre-orders open, occasionally the evening before. Based on every recent iPhone launch, expect trade-in bill credits spread over 36 months, higher amounts for switchers than for upgrades, and a requirement to sit on a mid-tier or premium plan to qualify for the headline number.

The variable this time is supply. Apple is shipping in two waves and Kuo attributes the five-week gap to manufacturing limits, so the aggressive “free phone with any trade-in” promotions that follow a Pro launch are less likely here — at least until stock settles.
